Affordable Health Insurance Helps You Ride Out The New Job Waiting Game

When you land a new job with employer-sponsored health insurance, you are typically subject to a waiting period of anywhere between 30 days and six months before you can enroll. Maintaining affordable health insurance coverage in the interim is a better option than “riding it out” and hoping you don’t need medical attention.

Don’t play the “wait and see” game; be proactive. Consider these two options:

1. Short-term medical insurance – With low premiums and quick enrollment, these temporary plans can provide a short-term financial safety net until your long-term plan begins.
2. Coverage through a spouse’s plan – A change in employment status may be considered a qualifying event that allows for changes to your spouse’s employer-sponsored major medical insurance. If so, you may elect to join your spouse’s plan when you become unemployed or leave your job; then, you can leave the plan when you become eligible for coverage at your new employer.

Payment Options

Monthly payment options are available for 6 or 12 month policies. If you select this option, and your need for insurance ends before your coverage period ends, you can cancel at any time through written notification to our Policy Service Department. Otherwise, coverage stops at the end of the period for which you apply. (The 12 month coverage option is not available in all states.)

Single payment discounts are available for policies 30-180 days. The policy premium and all applicable fees must be paid in full. Policy premium is refundable if the policy is cancelled within the 10-day free look period. After the 10-day free look period, all premium and applicable fees are not refundable upon early cancellation of the policy. Coverage stops at the end of the period for which you apply.
