Posted Sep 17, 2015 by Jenifer Dorsey

It’s September. By the time you read this, 2016 Obamacare open enrollment is less than two months away. The next open-enrollment period for individual health insurance plans sold on and away from state-based and federally facilitated exchanges begins Nov. 1, 2015, and ends Jan. 31, 2016.

With open enrollment taking place right around the holidays, it can be especially tempting to try to save time by simply renewing your current health plan. After all, for many of us, buying health insurance can be overwhelming—there are so many options and factors to consider.

That’s why we suggest you start thinking about next year’s health plan today. Each month, starting with August, Health eDeals is providing a checklist to help you gradually prepare.

Maybe you will keep your current health insurance coverage. Maybe you will enroll in something new. At least when you plan ahead, you can feel good about knowing you made an informed decision.
