Ever since the Affordable Care Act’s state-based and federally facilitated health insurance exchanges opened for business Oct. 1, 2013, it seems we hear the words “narrow network” more frequently. 

So what are these narrow provider networks that seem directly associated with Obamacare? Are they truly exclusive to Health Insurance Marketplace plans? Should they be avoided?  

Health eDeals spoke with Jim Carlson, a health insurance executive and actuary with Demystify Healthcare, and he answered some of our biggest questions about narrow networks.
