How Do Temporary Insurance Plan Networks Work?

I thought temporary health insurance plans did not require you to see network providers, but the plan materials I just received talk about networks. Can you explain?

You are correct. The Secure Saver and Secure STM plans sold through give you the flexibility to choose the doctors and clinics you prefer without network restrictions or benefit reductions. However, these temporary health insurance plans do come with access to discounted medical services through national preferred provider organization networks like:

MultiPlan – One of the nation’s largest networks, MultiPlan has more than 650,000 providers, including physicians and inpatient and outpatient facilities, in 50 states.

ACS – A comprehensive network of 38,000 ancillary service providers, ACS represents providers of outpatient services, including lab and diagnostic testing, but it does not include physicians.

And others!

These PPO networks include health care providers that have agreed to offer their services and supplies at pre-negotiated prices. In non-emergency situations it may be worthwhile to research in-network providers when using your temporary health insurance plan. The discounts available through these network providers for covered services can help lower out-of-pocket costs with discounted rates of 10 to 40 percent off the standard charge.1

Finding and using network providers

Locating a MultiPlan or ACS network provider and using your plan benefits is simple.

1. To search for a network health care provider or facility, visit or and click on the “Provider Search” button on the right.

You may need to refer to your Secure Saver or Secure STM identification card for network details. When scheduling your appointment, confirm that the provider or facility still participates in the MultipPlan, ACS or another network, depending on which you plan to use.

2. Bring your plan ID card to your appointment. It includes the network information needed for the provider to correctly process covered billed charges.
